History of the Zombie Mock.

What Doesn’t Kill Us was originally a short film between new friends at Stephen F. Austin State University.  We were proud of our freshman year project, and for a while, that’s all it ended up being.  After semesters of tossing around the idea of shooting a feature film about our short film concept, we never felt fully prepared, but we decided to go for it anyways.

Summer of 2015, we entered production.  It was always a small crew, consisting of only our loyal sound guy and us three co-directors to fill in every role.  Given the documentary style of the movie, everyone we knew that had an acting bone in their body made their way into the film.  After exhausting every resource in our college town of Nacogdoches, we finally wrapped ‘principal photography’ after two years of sporadic shooting dates.

After, literally, countless hours of post-production between us, summer of 2018 came around, and we held a test screening with our first audience in Santa Monica California.  We had become pretty numb to our film, but to be in a theater with an audience laughing and enjoying our movie like we had been waiting so long for was rejuvenating to say the least.

Now, we look forward to sharing that experience with audiences around the world.

Zach Schlapkohl

The unanimous decision for Zach to write WDKU only made it natural for him to edit as well. Now based in Los Angeles, he continues to both write and edit for TV and film.

Ethan Cartwright

Ethan's harmonious sense of comedy made for the easy decision to give him a prominent role in WDKU. Now with a second feature under his belt, Ethan works on films in the Dallas area.

Jacob Kiesling

After working with many directors in college, Jacob fell naturally into the role of cinematographer. Now living in LA, Jacob put his visual eye to work as a writer and director.

Richard Scott Jr.

Richard plays the role of Jeremy – the first necrosapien athlete with the potential of going pro.  He’s quick on his feet, but there’s no outrunning the media.  Not only does Jeremy need to play the best ball of his life; he needs to best the adversities of being first in anything.

Tevia Loeser

The lively and passionate nocro-rights activist, Bridgett, is played by the equally passionate, Tevia Loeser.  Fueled by her father being taken by the fugu plague, Bridgett only looks forward as she heads the campaign for, hopefully, the first necrosapien Texas State Governor.

Peyton Paulette

If there’s such a thing as an average office-working necrosapien, that would be Keith.  Unfortunately for him, there’s no such thing.  Not only does he have the suspicion that office prejudices are keeping him from getting a raise, but life at home isn’t so peachy either.  Due to his condition, Keith’s greatest fear is that he won’t be able to have a child with his human wife.
